Twilio Toolkit

The Twilio toolkit connects Arcade to Twilio's messaging API, enabling LLMs to send SMS messages and read SMS conversations through phone numbers on a Twilio account.

Capabilities

  • Sending SMS: Send messages from any SMS-capable Twilio number on the account; returns the message SID and delivery status. Trial accounts are restricted to verified destination numbers.
  • Reading conversations: Retrieve the full two-way SMS thread with a specific contact (messages sent and received), paginated newest-first with cursor support.
  • Listing received messages: Fetch inbound SMS messages on a given Twilio number, paginated with a cursor that preserves the number and page size across calls.
  • Phone number discovery: List all SMS-capable numbers on the account in ascending order, with cursor-based pagination; pages may be shorter than the requested limit when some numbers lack SMS capability.

Secrets

This toolkit requires no OAuth flow. Authentication is performed directly with Twilio credentials passed as secrets.

  • TWILIO_ACCOUNT_SID — The unique identifier for your Twilio account. Found on the Twilio Console homepage under Account Info. It begins with AC.

  • TWILIO_API_KEY_SID — The SID of a Twilio API Key, used together with TWILIO_API_KEY_SECRET instead of your master auth token. Create an API Key in the Twilio Console under Account → API keys & tokens → Create API key. Choose Standard type unless you need account-level control (which requires Main type). The SID is shown immediately after creation and begins with SK. See Twilio API Keys documentation for details.

  • TWILIO_API_KEY_SECRET — The secret paired with TWILIO_API_KEY_SID. It is displayed only once at the moment the API Key is created in the Console; copy and store it securely before closing the page. If lost, you must create a new API Key. See Twilio API Keys documentation for details.

For guidance on storing secrets in Arcade, see the Arcade secrets documentation. You can manage secrets at https://api.arcade.dev/dashboard/auth/secrets.

List SMS messages exchanged with one contact, newest first. Includes messages that contact sent to the Twilio number and messages sent to that contact from the Twilio number. Pass the returned cursor to read older messages. A cursor only continues the same numbers and page size.
2
List SMS-capable phone numbers on the Twilio account, in ascending order by phone number. A page can be shorter than the limit when numbers on it cannot send SMS. Pass the returned cursor to read the next page.
2
List SMS messages received on a Twilio number, newest first. Pass the returned cursor to read the next, older page. A page cursor only continues the same number and page size.
2
Send an SMS from a Twilio phone number on this account. Returns the new message SID and Twilio's status for it. A trial account can text only verified destination numbers. If Twilio does not confirm the send, the message may already exist.
